Black Focus - Yussef Kamaal

The duo of Yussef Kamaal is one of the figureheads in the current London jazz scene.

As their American contemporaries who have given a new (and welcome!) breath to jazz by infusing it with hip-hop sounds (and rhetoric), Kamaal Williams and Yussef Dayes formulated a typically London-based self-taught jazz, that perfectly fits in this “bass music” saturated environment.

Black Focus, released in 2016, echoes the British pirate radio shows as well as the cosmic jazz-funk of the 70s ... In that respect, the album is irresistible!
