Contrasts - Sam Rivers

On Contrasts, the only album he recorded for ECM as a leader, Sam Rivers (on tenor and soprano saxophones and flute) has teams ed up with trombonist George Lewis, bassist Dave Holland and drummer Thurman Barker (doubling on marimba).

The complexity of Rivers’ seven compositions, here at the height of his form, and the interplay between these brilliant musicians, which suggests total freedom, stir colourful, joyful and intense moods.

The unique creativity heard on Contrasts (also a great sounding record, with a translucent soundstage) is sure to please selective jazz aficiandos.
