Giant Steps – John Coltrane

Giant Steps, the first album and an undisputed masterpiece by influential jazz saxophonist John Coltrane. Recorded for Atlantic Records in 1959, Giant Steps continues to amaze and inspire listeners six decades after its initial release. For the album, Coltrane is joined by Paul Chambers on double bass, Tommy Flanagan on piano and Art Taylor on drums on all tracks except Naima, with Jimmy Cobb on drums and Wynton Kelly on piano.

Giant Steps is a landmark in modern jazz improvisation, famous for Coltrane's unique exploration of chord structures, the famous Coltrane Changes, but equally remarkable given that many of the album's compositions have become jazz standards.

This GIANT STEPS: 60th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION includes, a newly remastered version of the original recording and eight alternate takes, 180g double-LP set, a booklet with photos and Atlantic Records ephemera, the original liner notes, and additional notes by music historian Ashley Kahn.
