Beautiful instrumental poetry
Aaron Parks' Little Big (2018 - Ropeadope) takes us on a journey throughout the album in a quasi-romantic musical flow that is expressed in an exciting, collaborative dynamic.
Considered one of the most exciting representatives of the young American jazz scene, Aaron Parks is one of those jazz pianists who have an impact far beyond the impeccable interpretation of musical pieces; in addition to being an excellent pianist, Parks is distinguished by his deep reflection on music and his ability to translate it into compositions that reflect his own version of contemporary jazz.
The interaction of the quartet, which Parks has also chosen to call Little Big - a reference to a fantasy novel entitled Little Big written by American author John Crowley in the 1980's -, is harmonically built, without haste but always with a growing energy and intensity where complex and fully assumed sound worlds are developed.
Guitarist Greg Tuohey, bassist DJ Ginyard and drummer Tommy Crane bring their experience and sensibility of jazz, but also of electronic music, R&B and indie pop, that subtly weave into Parks' music to give magical moments that are well worth discovering.
