Formed in Munich in 1967, the Amon Düül project was born from a politically committed hippie community, inviting any person, musician or not, to participate in huge musical sessions, improvised under psychotropic drugs. In 1968, under the impulse of divergent artistic and idealistic aspirations, guitarist Chris Karrer, vocalist Renate Knaup-Kroaetenschwanz, guitarist Johannes Weinzierl, drummer Peter Leopold and keyboardist Falk Rogner all left the original commune to create their own rock band.
The new collective, which adopted the name of Amon Düül II to differentiate from the original commune, is considered as one of the founders of the German musical renewal of the 70s and one of the pioneers of a movement free of any dogma: the Kraütrock.
Their debut album, Phallus Dei, is a Krautrock essential! The classic 1969 LP, often cited as the first original Krautrock album, has been especially re-mastered for the vinyl edition. To discover / re-discover!
