Purple, fourth album for the Savanah Georgia band Baroness and first on their own Abraxan Hymns Records label, features a new line up since the departure of drummer Allen Blickle and bassist Matt Maggioni following injuries in a bus crash on their 2012 Yellow & Green European tour.
Purple, like each Baroness record, is an emotionally intense and excellent album with intricate sonorities, complex song structures and cleverly conceived bursts of stoner, alternative metal and progressive rock.
Produced by the talented and famous Dave Friedman (Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips, Sleater-Kinney...) and artwork from the no less talented frontman John Dyer Baizley.
