An album with marked Blues influences
Safe As Milk is the debut album by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, a Californian band combining blues, doo wop, psychedelia and experimentation. Launched in 1967, Safe as Milk is an album with marked Blues influences and already contains elements for which the music of Beefheart will be known; surreal lyrics, syncopated tempos and unusual, wacky humour.
The album is also remarkable for the contribution of a young Ry Cooder (20 years old), who plays guitar as well he is responsible for the arrangements.
