The sixteen studio album for Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds follows the Bad Seeds' most critically and commercially successful release of recent times, Push the Sky Away (2013).  Intense moods and atmospheres, minimalist electronic elements, its emotional impact hits like a ton of bricks.

Nick Cave often touch on dark subjects and death itself, but Skeleton Tree approaches the subject differently, in a more direct way... loss, regret, reminiscence, redemption... The whole of this latest creation reflects her own moods, sometimes intense, sometimes serene, having lost one of her twin 15-year-old sons in the process of production.

Skeleton Tree is an absorbing album; electronic elements and minimalist, even meditative structures... Nick Cave abandons his abrasive side for a piano and subtle arrangements.

The album began its journey in late 2014 at Retreat Studios, Brighton, with further sessions at La Frette Studios, France in autumn 2015. The album was mixed at AIR Studios, London, in early 2016.
