Herbie Hancock recorded his last studio-album for Blue Note in 1969. The Prisoner is a powerful and ambitious musical statement with some his most ambitious compositions which highlights Hancock’s sound and his unique sense of orchestration. The album is also a vibrant tribute to Martin Luther King.

The Prisoner features an unorthodox line up of exceptional instrumentalists in jazz; Buster Williams (bass), Albert ‘Tootie’ Heath (drums), Hubert Laws (flute), Joe Henderson (tenor sax), Jerome Richardson (bass clarinet) and Garnett Brown (trombone).

Originally recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, this re-release is part of Blue Note Records’ Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series, produced by Joe Harley, and features all-analog, mastered-from-the-original-master-tape 180g audiophile vinyl reissues in deluxe gatefold packaging. Mastering is by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) and vinyl is manufactured at Record Technology Incorporated (RTI).
